Entry in 2014

If you are considering applying for the 2014 STP intake, you might want to familiarise yourself with the information below to see if the scheme is for you.
You should also be aware that scheme will be subject to change in 2014.
Training scheme
As part of the modernised national training scheme, NHS trusts are funded to offer salaried training posts in life sciences, physical sciences and biomedical engineering, or physiological sciences throughout England.
The healthcare science workforce is one of the most exciting and dynamic in the NHS. Healthcare scientists play a vital role in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease and the rehabilitation of patients. Their innovation and expertise help save lives and improve care and is crucial in helping the NHS to respond to the challenges of public and patient needs in the 21st century.
Great career prospects
If you are committed to improving the health of others by applying your science, a career as a healthcare scientist in the NHS could not be a more rewarding choice. It also offers plenty of scope for personal development, great career prospects and a wide range of opportunities to use specialist scientifics skills and interests for the benefit of patients.
Successful candidates will be employed as a 'trainee healthcare scientist' by an NHS trust. They will join a three year, fixed term, training programme of work-based and academic learning, undertaking a university accredited master's degree. Read about the salary and benefits for STP trainees
These training posts offer excellent broad based clinical scientific training across a range of rotations in different themed pathways before specialisation in the latter part of the training.
Successful trainees will be in a position to apply for NHS posts as healthcare scientists. Read about two students, Katharine Kenny and Rebecca Franses, who are currently completing the STP course and find out about their experiences.
Open days
Some NHS trusts are holding open days for applicants. For the latest list of events, visit the NHS Graduate Scheme's events page on Facebook
You should keep checking the page for updates.
You must book your attendance at these events by contacting the organisation direct using the details provided in the event. You can NOT book your place through the events page on Facebook.
Not all organisations are holding open days. All open days that we are aware of have been advertised - if your organisation /specialism is not on this list there is no point contacting us asking if they are holding an event.
You should only attend an open day if it is for the specialism you are going to apply for.
