Queen Associates and our client are searching for a Business Analyst with a Biology and Technology background. The opening is a long term contract engagement. The candidate must work onsite at the client location in Cambridge, MA.

Primary Responsibilities:
This BA will not be doing the typical BA functions such as creating documentation and writing specs, but will be responsible for translating a Biology problem into an IT solution. This person will work with biologists, analyze their needs, and create prototypes, including wireframes and working prototypes with JavaScript, Java, .NET, etc. (A wireframe model is an edge or skeletal representation of a real-world 3D object using lines and curves). This person does not need to be a developer, but any background in creating prototypes will be very helpful.
This person must have an excellent understanding of Biology and Computer Science in order to take problems in the Biology lab and be able to come up with IT related solutions. They are looking for someone from a biotech company or from a large Research institution such as Harvard Medical School. They are not looking for someone from a traditional pharmaceutical company such as Genzyme – not pharmaceutical manufacturing or clinical trials. The hiring manager suggested pulling from small startup biotech companies. This person must have worked in a research lab. They are looking for someone with a Biology background with a Masters at least or a PhD in biology if possible. Someone with great communication and who has worked in an Agile environment will be most successful.
Job Description:
Our Client is looking for a Biology Business Analyst which will be an IT Specialist with an excellent understanding of biology, research data, and lab workflows, as well as strong experience in software engineering and informatics. The successful candidate will be responsible for the analysis, definition, and efficient implementation of IT tools and solutions, especially in the areas of target discovery and biologics research, in close collaboration with scientists and management of biology research groups. They will actively collaborate with software development teams to enhance the internal portfolio of applications and databases to meet defined research needs.
Requirements:
· Proactively work with research scientists and management of the biology research groups to understand their data management and analysis needs.
· Define data management solution(s) based on the company IT enterprise application portfolio to meet the scientific needs.
· Implement and deliver integrated solution(s) to support the research projects in collaboration with internal and/or external software development teams.
· Collaborate with software development teams to enhance the company’s IT applications and databases to meet new/additional research needs.
· Work as a team member or team leader to ensure that the solutions are implemented efficiently.
· Advanced degree in Biology and/or BSc in bioinformatics, or similar
· Experience working in a biomedical research environment, either in a pharmaceutical, academic or biotech organization, with excellent understanding of the target and drug discovery process
· Proven capability interacting with scientists and research management in a complex global research organization with a strong customer service attitude
· Good understanding and practical experience integrating enterprise components to end-to-end solution for specific research processes
· Experience with rapid prototyping and agile software development methodologies.
· Experience managing small to mid-size projects
· Solid understanding of relational databases and familiarity with Oracle and/or SQL server.
· Knowledge of .NET software development a plus
· Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team
