Postdoctoral Fellow in Bioinformatics/Biostatistics @ University of Alberta and the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

Alberta Health Services Logo

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellow position between the University of Alberta and the Cross Cancer Institutein Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The research project aims to develop a diagnostic model utilizing genomic (SNP), clinical and dosimetric parameters that identifies patients at risk for toxicity from radiation therapy for their prostate cancer. The research will involve the development and validation of this model using a comparative set of well characterized machine learning algorithms, with a primary focus on decision tree based classifiers. There will be scope for the researcher to develop new domain specific classifiers as needed. The overarching objective of this research is to develop a robust, parsimonious, clinically applicable diagnostic classifier, and to present the findings in international meetings and peer reviewed publications.
The postdoctoral fellow will play a leading role in this radiogenomics research project. Training in the domain specific clinical aspects of the project will be provided; however, significant experience in bioinformatics/biostatistics will be required. A background in the following domains will be an asset for this research: Bioinformatics, biostatistics, decision trees, machine learning, pre-processing and analysis of SNP data, genomic research, and oncology.
All research will be carried out in a collaborative setting between the Department of Oncology (in particular Radiation Oncology), the Department of Medicine (Biostatistics), and Alberta Health Services (Cross Cancer Institute). The fellow will work in a multidisciplinary environment involving clinicians, scientists, statisticians, and health administrators.
