Baylor Health Care System (BHCS) has long been committed to the promotion of research on its campuses. In its endeavor to provide a cohesive and coordinated research effort at BHCS, Baylor Research Institute (BRI) seeks to identify and pursue unique research opportunities. The staff of BRI works with the staff of all BHCS entities to develop and promote medical research from the bench to the patient. Assisting staff in contract negotiations of clinical trials and identifying funding opportunities for research and inventions are part of the many services offered.
We currently have an opening for a scientific programmer/quantitative analysis developer to work in a fast-paced, highly-motivated research environment. This inidividual will formulate and define project scope and objectives through research and fact-finding to develop or modify moderately complex information systems handling genome sequence related data. We seek individuals who are looking to work in a diverse research environment that supports ongoing genomics research, improvements in sequencing technology and genome analysis.
Essential Functions and Duties:
*Prepares detailed specifications and algorithms for genome sequence analysis from which programs will be written.
*Develops and refines all aspects of high-throughput DNA sequence analysis pipeline.
*Applies existing custom bioinformatics software to both well-defined and complex genome analysis problems.
*Designs, codes, tests, debugs, and maintains programs and research software for genome sequence analysis applications.
*Researches, assesses, imports, configures, and customizes third-party bioinformatics software.
*Advises on hardware and software decisions related to efficient application of implemented software.
*May provide technical guidance, work direction and training to lower level bioinformatics and information systems personnel.
*Performs other job related duties as assigned.
