Job Description:
Dr. Woelk's laboratory at the University of Southampton in the Southampton General Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow focused on the current strategies to cure HIV. The primary aims of the project are to forge constructs that recognize the environment in cells latently infected with HIV and destroy them, as well as to support research associated with the Collaboratory of AIDS Researchers for Eradication Other projects in the Woelk lab for which research interactions will be available include the following: Alzheimer’s disease, Asthma, Bacterial pathogenesis, human endogenous retroviruses, molecular evolution, post-traumatic stress disorder, Reverse Vaccinology, and Schizophrenia.
A Research Fellow is required primarily in the area of bioinformatics but with a strong understanding of molecular biology and genomics. The ideal candidate will have earned their Ph.D. in an area such as bioinformatics, biostatistics, or medical informatics, or from a cross-disciplinary program that included one of these areas of study. Essential skills required for this position include proficiency in a Unix/Linux environment and an additional programming language (e.g., python, perl, C++, etc). Individuals with experience in any of these additional areas are strongly encouraged to apply: microarray gene expression analysis, RNA-seq, miRNA analysis, ChIP-seq, siRNA knockdown, cell culture, cloning, and RNA isolation.
Position Details:
The position is full time and the initial appointment is for 1 year, with funding secured for the possibility of an additional 2nd years. Salary is commensurate with experience and in the range of £27,854 to £34,223.
