Requirements: | • Ph.D. or M.S. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Statistics, or closely related fields • Three year research experience in bioinformatics or genomics for an M.S. degree holder • Extensive knowledge in up-to-date bioinformatics resources and tools • Competency in statistics • Broad and interdisciplinary experience in biomedical research KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance while consistently exercising good judgment • Ability to learn new technology quickly • Programming skills in several languages, such as Perl, Java, C++, PHP, R, and SQL • Excellent written and oral presentation skills • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with both research and technical staff • Excellent time management and communication skills. • Proficiency in operating systems, UNIX, LINUX, Mac OS X, and Windows • Pro-active mindset. All CHOP employees who work in a patient building or who provide patient care are required to receive an annual influenza vaccine unless they are granted a medical or religious exemption. Job Description: Provide bioinformatics support to the Stokes research community as a member of the Bioinformatics Core Facility, in the areas of data mining (DNA sequencing, genomics, functional genomics, proteomics, systems biology), data integration, data management, algorithmics, data visualization, and bioinformatics training. Identify and implement software, hardware, and other informatics solutions to the bioinformatics needs identified and prioritized by the Director of the Bioinformatics Core. Contribute to bioinformatics process optimization and standardization. Leverage existing public and commercial bioinformatics resources and tools. Develop algorithms, software tools, and resources as needed. Assist with organizing and hosting bioinformatics workshops, tutorials, and seminars. Interact with Stokes researchers to determine bioinformatics needs, project specifics, and development and delivery of solutions. Participate in grant-level collaborations on research projects. Participate in the Bioinformatics Core’s research initiatives. Assist with preparing manuscripts and presentations. |
