Faculty Positions @ Shanghai Center for Systems Biomedicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University : Shanghai, China

Shanghai Center for Systems Biomedicine, newly established as an interdisciplinary research institute on the main campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, is ultimately aiming at the treatment and prevention of major human diseases. The center has its own research building of over 22,000 square meters to house its research laboratories, teaching facilities and major instrumentations.
Shanghai Center for Systems Biomedicine is a focus of converging methodologies, from biology to physics and engineering with an emphasis on integrating basic research and clinical applications as well as enabling technologies critical to Omics research and personalized medicine. The center also supports an array of biomedical research facilities, such as bioinformatics, high throughput technology, molecular imaging, transgenic animals, tissue banks, single cell facilities and more. Not only are these facilities an essential component of the center, but are also open platforms to initiate cross campus collaborations.
The center will adopt an open laboratory structure to favor a highly cohesive and cooperative research culture. With the support from the university, the center is seeking highly motivated and highly qualified individuals to fill several group leader positions at the rank of associated or full professor, although lower rank applications will also be considered under exceptional cases. The center offers a generous start package with sufficient research space, research staff and major instrumentation.
Individuals with research experiences in the following areas are particularly encouraged to apply and will be given preferential consideration.
  •  Systems biology and translational medicine of major diseases (which are high incidence in China, such as cancers, metabolic diseases, neurodegenerative diseases): including researches in disease genetics, epigenetics, molecular and cellular biology, new biomarkers, therapeutic strategies and etc.
  • New strategy and technology related to systems biology: including Omic platforms such as genomics, proteomics, and metabonomics, as well as bioinformatics, structural biology, single-cell analysis and etc.
  • New drug research and development based on systems biology: applying chemicobiology/genomics, pharmacochemistry, and high-throughput screening platforms for new drug target discovery and validation, drug innovation and the modernization of traditional Chinese Medicine.
Applicants must have a PhD or MD from a reputable university or institute and should observe the following:
  •  An excellent research record with many papers published in reputable journals in past 5 years;
  • Preference will be given to those with working on systems biology or biomedical and translational researches;
  • Candidates should be innovative and are keenly interested in team research and interdisciplinary projects;
  • Teach experience is preferred but not required.

Candidates qualified for the “1000 Plan” (the Recruitment Program of Global Experts) or “Chang Jiang Scholars” are particularly welcome.
Junior scientists with an exceptional research accomplishment are particularly encouraged and will be promoted through a special program.

Interested individuals please send the following materials to: Ms. Joanna QIAO, Personnel Officer (scsbhr@sjtu.edu.cn): (1) 2 page research plan; (2) 2 page description of past accomplishments; (3) 3-5 names of referees with full contact information; (4) full C.V. (5) 1-3 representative publications. Consideration will start immediately until positions are filled. Selected candidates will be invited to Shanghai for interview as soon as the Search Committee makes its recommendations.
