Celgene Corporation is committed to delivering innovative therapies designed to improve the lives of patients worldwide. We are a global biopharmaceutical company with operations in more than 70 countries that is helping to turn incurable cancers into chronic, manageable conditions. We are seeking talented professionals as we continue to grow and advance our efforts in oncology, hematology and immune and inflammatory disease. If you would like to join a company where you can make a difference, please consider the Celgene family.
Ph.D. in life sciences with experience in molecular and cellular immunology.
Summary/Scope:
Celgene is a multinational biopharmaceutical company committed to improving the lives of patients worldwide. At Celgene, we seek to deliver truly innovative and life-changing drugs to our patients. Our mission as a company is to build a global biopharmaceutical corporation while focusing on the discovery, the development, and the commercialization of products for the treatment of cancer and immune / inflammatory diseases, with focus on rare and complex diseases of unmet medical need.
The postdoctoral position is in the Inflammation & Immunology (I&I) Translational Development group where the focus is on developing biomarkers for clinical trials treating patients with inflammatory diseases including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, lupus, Sjogren’s disease, sarcoidosis, Crohn’s disease, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, and asthma.
The postdoctoral fellow will play a key role in Celgene’s Translational Development efforts to understand the mechanism of action of our drugs within the context of specific disease settings. The successful candidate will have a strong cellular immunology background with a demonstrable, pro-active investigational approach to pharmacological studies of T-cell, B-cell and dendritic cell biology.
Responsibilities will include the following:
The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for conducting cutting-edge translational research involving mechanism of action studies of Celgene compounds in clinical development for inflammatory disease indications.
- Utilize translational based approaches to develop new concepts and hypotheses identifying distinguishing characteristics of Celgene compounds on immunocytes that reflect drug impact and efficacy in a clinical setting.
- Employ pharmacogenomic and bioinformatic tools to develop testable pathway hypothesis being modulated by Celgene drug candidates.
- Independently design and conduct laboratory experiments with primary cell cultures and patient samples.
- Develop leading edge cell based disease models of activation, differentiation, apoptosis, and antigen presentation.
- Use state of the art 18-color flow cytometer to identify immune cell subsets and functional responses.
- Establish and manage collaborative research activities with other scientists in the department.
- Prepare findings for publication in peer-reviewed journals and present work to audiences both within Celgene and at national scientific meetings.
Skills/Knowledge Required:
Applicants should have a recent Ph.D. in immunology/molecular/cellular biology, molecular pharmacology or related fields with a strong working knowledge of complex immune system functional dynamcis. Skills required include flow cytometry, molecular biology, human immune cell purification and culture techniques, pharmacological manipulation of cell signaling and function, ability to use advanced automated laboratory equipment, working knowledge of basic principles in bioinformatics approaches investigating gene expression data sets, strong laboratory capabilities, and excellent presentation and organizational skills. Candidates should be highly self-motivated and passionate about scientific investigation and its clinical applications.
